Decided this contest was so much fun that I'd sign up for the reflector for a
while. As a member of the MNQP steering committee, it is always fun to dig
into the other neighboring events. Certainly, MI stations have been super
supporters of our contest, and we made a special attempt to urge MWA members (on
our reflector) to reciprocate. Unfortunately neither Ethan, K8GU, WA0MHJ, or
myself could make full time efforts this year like we did last year, but I do
see that there were a bunch of MWA part timers, however.
Conditions were pretty brutal for me up here in Duluth. Could not hear the
mobiles very often on 40, and they were often covered up by the fixed guys!
No UP mobiles until I went to 80, which was great the last hour or so.
Somewhat surprised to see 13 different mobiles worked, during the prox 4+ hours I was
on--did about 12 fifteen-twenty minutes shots and the last hour. Trouble was
no one mobile was worked many times! K8MR (7), NU8Z (5), AF8A, WT9U, & W1NN
(4), K8IR,K8EPV, and NE9U (3).
The MNQP eliminated the in-state HP class a couple of years ago for just such
a year as this--(conditions). Gives the mobiles a better chance.
I did both MN and WI as a rover mobile this year and want to do the UP
someday--just a bit short of time this year for all the driving required--110 miles
to GOGE and the start/finish.
This was not a year for a close in outstate station to place! Nothing on 20
from here.
Thanks, again, for a great contest--very intriguing strategy required!
