A lot of people just don't have the time to dedicate a full 12 hours to a contest. I was only able to operate around 9. One way that might encourage people to participate is to add an award for the most QSOs worked in a certain period of time. It could be two hours or four or whatever. That way if they couldn't work the entire contest, they could still get some recognition for their efforts.
