From the ILQP reflector. Anyone within the MIQP hierarchy want to
tackle getting the SEC and EC's involved in MiQP 2007?

We did that last year. After I found out that I could not come up
mobile, I got with our EC and came up with a EmComm plan. We decided to
use the Earthquake card, the New Madrid fault shook and damaged much of
the State. It was the job of our Group to make contact with as many
counties in Illinois as possible. Each contact was treated as Health and
Welfare traffic. Exposed several local hams to both contesting and
working as a team for a common goal. Local EMA and 911 officials were
direct on our plan also. Several State QSO parties could be used this
way. Prime directive. Have fun ! Jeff NY4N / M

I don't know who inspired ARES in Michigan, but two or three ARES groups
joined in the 2006 MiQP. I moved to Michigan last November (2005) so
wasn't cognizant of the hierarchy of ARES/RACES in this section.
However, I mentioned to the Section Mangler that operating during MiiQP
would be a good way for ARES groups to see how many counties they could
contact. (One of the goals of ARES/RACES is to be able to contact their
counterparts via Ham Radio when other forms of communications fail.) If
leaders of the ILQP were to contact the SEC and EC's immediately after
the 2006 ILQP, and remind them from time to
time, during the year, more such groups or individuals from these groups
might be encouraged to participate. And, if these groups would get
active, perhaps some of the contesters might get interested in emergency
communications - a two way street....
