One thought that I have found that seems to generate interest in any contesting.....

Invite the new hams and any other non-contesters over to your station.
Set up a few extra sets of headphones so they can listen in.

Let em listen in for a while, to get the rhythm and the sound down.
Let them start to log for you. Even if it is on a scratch paper.

Then plop them down in front of the mic and let em have at it!
Have a simple script typed up. Print out exactly what they should be saying, both for the
CQ call and the response back.

They might mess up. They might slow your rate down. But who cares! They will be hooked.
They will either rush home and fire up their radio and join in, or they will get going on
that license upgrade to be able to join the fun next time!

Many people are afraid of the mic. Most don’t understand the concepts of the contests.
But get them into the shack and show them the fun and next time you will have an extra
contact for the contest!

Show them the ropes. Show them the fun. Get them talking.
Be that Elmer that guides them into the realm of contesting.
