I know I don't have to (and I know that MRRC isn't required to) do
things for free. I did it to get MRRC "off the dime" and into a new
paradigm and way of thinking. Besides the things you mentioned, ARRL
has "clean sweep mugs" for Sweepsteaks, Field day shirts and pins for
Field day, etc.
These things seem to "Jazz up" the interest in an event.
I certainly wouldn't expect to be "paid" for my time! I guess that ARRL
is the only group which considers such costs when they figure the price
for some trinket. But, they sell thousands, and they have an ordering
and shipping department, so they can buy in bulk and spread out the
cost.

did the same thing and they charged for their mug. Pennsylvania charges
for their mug and the Route 66 group charge for their certificate and
they had a very bad experience when they first ran the event. They
believed that there would not be a large demand for the certificate or
it would be difficult to obtain, never under estimate hams, the club had
no money or very very little after the event and since have charged and
no one seems to mind. Two dollars is a decent charge with printing
cost, envelope, label and postage, you might make a few pennies per
certificate but do not expect to charge for you time,

Randy:
Yep, GM turns 100. I did a google search for "General Motors
Centennial" and there were numerous articles.
One of the most popular seemed to be
http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/2008-01-01-gm-birthday_N.htm
That certainly is of significance to Michigan, and could be considered
for a MiQP special event award.
If I were choosing something to commemorate for the MiQP I'd prefer an
anniversary of some governmental or social significance, like the
Mackinac Bridge was in 2007, but these might be harder to find. For
example, I looked at the Historical Society of Michigan Web site, and
didn't find any way to search for centennial, bi centennial, etc.,
events in the state. I'll call them on Tuesday and see if there's a way
to do such a search.
I'd be willing to sponsor such a special certificate for the 2008 event,
but, we should decide early enough to "get the word out."

before, half the reason I work the PaQP is to try and get one of those
"Worked all PA counties" plaques... (I keep coming up one short tho,
darn it!)
