I don't think Dan meant simultaneous county operation when he said "...try to work along county lines as much as possible to limit driving...".  I think he was referring to positioning himself near say a four county border and then being able to move from county to county without having to take the time to drive clear thru the county.  Then after hitting those counties drive to another strategic location and swoop thru the next set of counties.  This is a common practice, especially when you're mobile solo.  It attempts to limit the amount of time you're mobile as some mobile solo's don't operate while driving.
