roving the UP this year. At this point it would seem that I have a slightly
better-than-even probability of making the annual trek. Aside from this
infernal and eternal winter weather, the big challenge is getting my little
Toyota Yaris outfitted for operation ... my particular concern is being able to
radiate a decent 80M signal with such a small ground plane. I’ll be
bonding the hood, doors, and hatchback tomorrow in hopes of extending the ‘counterpoise’.
Mike, N8MR, wrote me that he is making his run with a similar-size Honda
Fit. We should have some good notes to compare after the ‘test. With the
price of petrol now approaching $3.50 a gallon, I thought it time that I give
the small car a workout, as it gets close to 40 mpg on the highway. If you’ve
ever seen this car (it looks a bit like an egg), you’d probably be
wondering how I could get 20/40/75/ and 80M antennas mag-mounted up on its rounded
roof. So am I!<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
